Keynote Speaker on NGGA Milestones; Also Discussing the State of the Industry TodayDan Wogsland of Fargo, North Dakota, became the executive director of North Dakota Grain Growers Association in 2004, a position he still holds today. He is the owner and operator of Wogsland Farms in Walum, North Dakota and served 16 years as a senator for North Dakota. Wogsland graduated with a bachelor’s in agricultural economics from North Dakota State University.

Wheat Diseases and Disease ManagmentAndrew Friskop is the Cereal Crop Extension Plant Pathologist at North Dakota State University. He began his appointment in 2013 and has developed an Extension driven applied research program on the management of diseases in spring barley, spring wheat, winter wheat, durum and corn. Each year, he coordinates several fungicide trials on small grains and corn to help strengthen disease management recommendations for ND growers. In small grains, most of his field research program focuses on rust diseases, fungal leaf spots and Fusarium head blight (scab). He also is a primary author on the NDSU publication ‘North Dakota Field Crop Plant Disease Management Guide’ and is the manager of the NDSU Extension Pest Management App.

Tariffs, Trade and Marketing PlansFrayne Olson is the crop economist/marketing specialist with North Dakota State University Extension and director of the Quentin Burdick Center for Cooperatives. Olson conducts educational programs and research in evaluating crop marketing strategies; crop outlook and price analysis; and the economics of crop contracting. As director of the Center for Cooperatives, he teaches a senior level course on cooperative business management and coordinates the center’s research and outreach activities. Olson received his doctoral from the University of Missouri in agricultural economics, and his bachelor’s and master’s in agricultural economics from North Dakota State University.

Optimizing Productivity in Ccereals Using Seed Treatments and FungicidesLogan Grier is a technical marketing manager with BASF U.S. Crop Protection. In her role, she is responsible for wheat and rice products. She began her career at BASF in 2008 as an ag biologist in herbicide development research. Logan earned her bachelor’s degree in genetics from Clemson University and her master’s degree in crop science from North Carolina State University.

Palmer Amaranth in North DakotaThomas J. Peters is the Extension sugarbeet agronomist and weed control specialist at North Dakota State University and the University of Minnesota, supporting farmers growing sugarbeets in Minnesota, North Dakota and eastern Montana. His interest is weed management in the crop sequence and its contribution to a field-based weed control strategy in sugarbeets. Peters joined NDSU and the University of Minnesota in February 2014 after retiring from Monsanto Company, St. Louis, Missouri. Tom is a Minnesota native and received his bachelor’s in agronomy and soil science at the University of Minnesota, a master’s from University of Nebraska and doctoral from North Dakota State University.
